On February 29th, 2024, the Liberal Government with the support of the NDP tabled An Act Respecting Pharmacare, also cited as the Pharmacare Act for a first reading in the House of Commons. Outlining the core principles for the initial stage of nationwide universal pharmacare in Canada, this Act showcases the Government of Canada’s commitment to partnering with provinces and territories (PTs) to ensure comprehensive, single-payer coverage for select contraception and diabetes medications.
